Academic Support

Studying at a College can be confusing and challenging. But at Sydney Met, we do everything possible to make your transition smooth and easy. We provide the help you need from day one through to graduation. There are a range of free support services available if you’re struggling academically, but you can access them all from the moment you start with us. We assist students to develop approaches to learning that will enable them to succeed in their academic study.

Academic Support Our academic services include:
  • Academic Orientation Program
Sydney Met organises an academic orientation program which includes a variety of workshops to help students hone their academic skills and get the most out of their studies.
  • Individual Consultation
Students can make an appointment with academics and staff through The Learning Hub for help with academic writing or assistance with any study-related concern.
  • Academic Writing Workshops
The Learning Hub of Sydney Met organises academic writing workshops throughout the year. These include essay writing, presentation skills, grammar, paraphrasing and summarising skills for assignments. These workshops provide students with guidance on a range of matters such as:
    • how to present clear, well-structured arguments;
    • how to better engage with and reference the ideas of others and
    • how to think critically, and
    • how to express ideas in an appropriately formal manner.
    • how to prepare for exams, assignment writing,
    • time management and general study skills
  • Conversation Hub
Through the Learning Hub, Sydney Met organises Conversation hub groups to give students an opportunity to practice their ‘everyday’ English speaking and social language and build social networks outside their academic studies. These groups are held as small and informal meetings. Each group is limited to 4 students and runs for 4 weeks.
  • Self-access Resources
Students or staff can also visit The Learning Hub to access our resource library. We have a collection of books, dictionaries and style guides to help students develop their academic writing ability, study and research skills, and communication skills.
  • Library Services
Our library offers free workshops, study tips, online workshops and tuition options available to strengthen your study and academic writing skills.
  • Peer Mentoring
You can sign up for peer mentoring, where you’ll be paired with a senior-year student who will show you around campus and give you all the information you need to start the year on the right foot.

Enrolment normally takes place on Orientation Day. Find out when you can enrol and other important dates below.
