Academic Integrity at Sydney Met

Academic integrity means actions aligned with the fundamental values of the International Centre for Academic Integrity, namely honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage, in learning, teaching, and research.

Sydney Met is committed to upholding principles of academic integrity and ethical scholarship and to ensuring that there is a clear understanding of expectations relating to the avoidance of academic misconduct. The Sydney Met Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure defines and describe the actions that constitute academic misconduct, the College’s processes for investigating allegations of academic misconduct, and the range of penalties that may be applied where allegations are proven.

At Sydney Met academic integrity is everyone’s responsibility. We support students and staff to understand the expectations of academic integrity by:

  • Introducing students to the Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure during orientation and providing ongoing workshops and 24/7 support through the Skills Hub to ensure students understand academic integrity.
  • Requiring all students to complete a compulsory Academic Integrity Module and test before they undertake assessment at Sydney Met.
  • Providing information about academic integrity and links to the Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure in unit materials, including every unit outline and every unit Moodle site.
  • Using Turnitin software to detect similarity and unauthorized use of generative artificial intelligence in written assessments submitted through the Learning Management System.
  • Reminding academic staff about the Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure prior to the commencement of each trimester during our Academic Staff Orientation and Professional Development event.
Acknowledgement of Country

Sydney Met's campus is located on the unceded territory of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, who are the traditional owners of the land where the campus is situated. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present, and emerging. We extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia and Indigenous peoples globally who are presently studying, working, or contributing to Sydney Met.
