The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology at Sydney Met provides a pathway for professionals to transition into an ICT career. The ICT industry encompasses a diverse range of innovative digital technologies, including data analytics, artificial intelligence, cyber security, etc. This course also enables those with an IT or related degree to undertake a specialised sequence of subjects to upskill or study subjects in an area not covered in their previous studies. It allows IT professionals to update their knowledge and skills in an essential area of IT to assist in career development.

The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology has been designed to provide foundational knowledge by covering the core elements of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) best practices set down by the Australian Computer Society’s Core Body of Knowledge (CBOK). This course provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for students considering careers in the IT sector. 

Note that this is an exit-only qualification.

This course is accredited by TEQSA (Tertiary Education and Quality Standards Agency) and is consistent with the AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework). TEQSA regulates qualifications in the Australian education system. Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements

To satisfy the academic requirements for admission to a Graduate Certificate in Information Technology, applicants must meet at least one of the following entry requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (AQF Level 7) or equivalent from an accredited Australian Higher Education Provider or equivalent overseas qualification; or
  • A Diploma (AQF Level 5) or Advanced Diploma (AQF Level 6) in a related discipline AND a minimum of TWO years work experience in the related field (minimum of 20 hours per week); or
  • Alternative pathways, including mature age entry, where those aged 21 years and older may apply for entry based on high school, TAFE, VET qualifications, work experience, and informal studies.

English Requirements

Applicants for the Graduate Certificate in the fields of Information Technology must demonstrate proficiency as follows:

  • Minimum IELTS (Academic Module): 6.5 overall, with no band less than 6.0 completed in the last 2 years, or equivalent. E.g., PTE (Academic Module) or TOEFL
  • Completion of an undergraduate program in any field in Australia within 2 years, or
  • 4 units completed in any Postgraduate degree in Australia within 2 years.
