Research & Scholarship Committee

fostering research culture, setting priorities, building industry links, and ensuring ethical standards at Sydney Met.

The Sydney Met Research and Scholarship Committee (RSC) is a sub-committee of the Academic Board chaired by the Executive Dean. Its role is to foster and support a culture of research and scholarship at Sydney Met.

The RSC is responsible for:

  • Identifying priority areas for research and scholarship at Sydney Met and developing initiatives to support and resource research and scholarship.
  • Building research and scholarship links with industry and academic partners.
  • Preparing a Scholarship and Research Plan for approval by the Academic Board, and for reporting progress against the plan to the Academic Board.
  • Maintaining a register of all research and scholarship activities at Sydney Met, and reporting on this annually.
  • Reviewing and/or developing policies and initiatives to support research and scholarship at Sydney Met.
  • Convening a Research Ethics sub-committee to ensure that all research involving human participants that Sydney Met academic staff are involved with either
    • has appropriate ethical approval through an NHMRC-registered Human Research Ethics Committee; or
    • has been reviewed and approved by the sub-committee as low or minimal risk research in accordance with the current National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (current version: 2023). This includes preparing Terms of Reference for the sub-committee.

The RSC meets ahead of each Academic Board Meeting and reports to the Academic Board.
