robust decisions and strong oversight for compliance, quality and sustainability of Sydney Met.
The Governance Council (GC) is the peak governing body of Sydney Met, responsible for the overall direction and supervision of the Institute. Operating independently, the GC reports to the Board of Directors (BoD) through its Chair as required. The GC sets strategic direction, monitors institutional performance, and holds accountability for all operations of Sydney Met.
The Governing Council (GC) has three standing committees:
The Finance and Risk Committee (FRC) is a standing committee of the Governance Council (GC) at Sydney Met. It reports regularly to the GC on financial performance and evaluates risks to the Institute’s financial sustainability. The FRC is responsible for advising the GC on matters related to financial viability, investment opportunities, and any financial issues that may affect Sydney Met’s ongoing stability.
The Risk Advisory Committee (RAC) is a standing committee of the Governance Council (GC) at Sydney Met. It serves as an advisory body, supporting the GC in identifying and managing both existing and emerging risks across the institution. The RAC provides regular reports to the GC through its Chair, outlining key risks, trends, potential mitigation strategies, and their implications. These reports contribute to the GC’s oversight of the Institute’s risk assessment and management processes.
The Governance and Policy Committee (GPC) is a standing committee of the Governance Council (GC) at Sydney Met. It reports regularly to the GC and focuses on strategic vision, policy development, delegation of authority, and compliance. The GPC supports the GC in maintaining an effective governance and policy framework and is responsible for developing, reviewing, and overseeing the policies and procedures that guide the Institute’s governance and management.
Sydney Met's campus is located on the unceded territory of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, who are the traditional owners of the land where the campus is situated. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present, and emerging. We extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia and Indigenous peoples globally who are presently studying, working, or contributing to Sydney Met.
