Professor Alistair Symons is the Chief Quality and Risk Officer at Sydney Metropolitan Institute of Technology. As Head of the Quality and Risk Division, he leads four teams including Quality Assurance, Risk Management, Governance and Policy, and Office of the Secretariat. Alistair is a member of Sydney Met’s Governing Council, Academic Board, Governance and Policy Committee, and Executive Management Team. He is Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee.

Alistair is a graduate of Sydney University (B Ed, M Ed) and the University of UNSW (M Ed Lead, PhD). His career over three decades commenced in secondary education, then transitioned to higher education. He is also highly experienced in vocational education and training through roles in dual sector providers. Alistair’s commitment to ‘governance for educational quality and integrity’ are reflected in his doctorate in organisational leadership and appointment to senior leadership roles including Principal and CEO of a private education provider.

Alistair has led successful projects in relation to institutes of higher education achieving university college provider category and unlimited self-accrediting authority. He is passionate about contributing to Sydney Met achieving the same strategic goals on its journey to becoming the premier provider of quality education for change.
